Were you able to attend the Holy Hormones workshop that we held at New Life Chiropractic last week? If you did, you likely recall when we talked about Xenoestrogens. These Xenoestrogens are a sub-category of endocrine disruptors that have estrogen-like effects.
Endocrine disruptors are chemicals that may interfere with the body’s endocrine system and produce adverse developmental, reproductive, neurological, and immune effects in both humans and wildlife. – According to the National Institute of Environmental Health Sciences
Where are endocrine disruptors found?
These endocrine disruptors can be man-made or natural. They are found in many everyday products like:
- Plastic water bottles
- Metal food cans
- Detergents
- Food
- Toys
- Cosmetics
- Pesticides.
Research shows that endocrine disruptors may pose the greatest risk during prenatal and early postnatal development when organ and neural systems are forming.
Estrogen vs. Xenoestrogene
Estrogen is a natural hormone in humans that is necessary for bone growth, blood clotting and reproduction in men and women. The body regulates the amount needed through intricate biochemical pathways.
When xenoestrogens enter the body, they increase the total amount of estrogen resulting in a phenomenon called estrogen dominance. Estrogen dominance leads to many symptoms including increased anxiety, difficulty sleeping, and increased irritability. High levels are also associated with an increased risk of cancer and highly proliferative breast tissue, which can lead to fibroids or cysts.
Hormone Imbalance Issues
Xenoestrogens are not biodegradable, and they are stored in our fat cells. Build up of xenoestrogens have been indicated in many conditions including:
- Breast, prostate and testicular cancer
- Obesity
- Infertility
- Endometriosis
- Early onset puberty
- Miscarriages
- Diabetes … and much more.
This is not something to be taken lightly, and it is essential to eliminate these from your environment and your body, which is done with the 5 Essentials of Max Living.
Estrogens are cleared by the liver in Phase I and Phase II hepatic detoxification reactions, making clear elimination pathways an important part of estrogen catabolism. Supporting healthy detoxification and elimination is a critical component of balancing hormones, removing toxic xenoestrogens and decreasing estrogen dominance.
In a patient who struggle with hormonal imbalance issues, an underlying problem with detoxification pathways might be uncovered with Max Metabolix testing. Utilizing the full detoxification protocol along with supplemental support will help clear detox pathways and improve the elimination of toxins and hormones.
If you have additional questions or need to schedule a Metabolix review to uncover your issues, please set up an expanded chiropractic evaluation appointment so we can sit down and put together a specific plan for you.
