Why Most Exercise Fails and What Actually Works

Why Your Workouts Are Not Working image of obese woman with light weights

Everyone knows that it is important to exercise, right?  Everyone knows they should work out more or they should get in better shape. However, the facts show that:

  • Only 20.7% of people exercise like they should.
  • 1/3 of America’s youth is unfit for military service.
  • 68.5% of adults are overweight or obese, according to the CDC.

Exercise & Weight Loss

Losing weight is one of the primary reasons people exercise, and for a very good reason… because it works!  The catch is that you do it correctly and you have a plan for success that will keep you on track.

A recent Stanford study showed that a group given an educational eight-week weight-management course before a 20-week weight-loss program was able to maintain weight loss better than a group thrust into the 20-week program immediately. The type of exercise also matters significantly when it comes to getting the best results.

In another study, there was a significant loss in body fat in a group that exercised at a high intensity of 80-90% of MHR (maximum heart rate).  No significant change in body fat was found in the lower intensity group, which exercised at 60-70% of MHR.  No significant difference in workload existed

Fitness Can Be Fun and Quick

Many people get the wrong idea about exercise and fitness. Believe it or not, we don’t have to dread it. Fitness can be fun.

We don’t have to let it consume all of our time. Fitness can be quick.

Most of all, we don’t have to let fitness be unachievable. Being fit is not just about muscles and a six-pack; it is about movement! Our bodies are designed to move, and movement is life, so if you are not moving, you are dying faster.

Exercise is Important For It’s Mental Affects

Other than looking better, feeling better, functioning better, and maximizing your health, there are other benefits to exercise that most people do not know; that is, the mental effects.

Anti-depression drugs are among the most commonly prescribed medications in the United States.  Researchers found that walking for 30 minutes each day improved a patient’s symptoms faster than an antidepressant drug.

A recent study found that four months of high-intensity interval training significantly improved cognitive function, such as the ability to think, recall, and make quick decisions.  The reason is that the right type of exercise increases cognitive function as well as maximizes your hormone production, especially growth hormone.

Benefits of increasing HGH production are:

  • Increased energy and endurance
  • Reduced fat accumulation and increased lean muscle mass
  • Increased bone density
  • Lower blood pressure
  • Improved sleep patterns and moods.

From the research, you can see that exercise is an important part of a healthy brain and nervous system.

The Best Type of Exercise for Improved Mental Health

What type of exercise will allow you to receive these amazing benefits? The answer is metabolic conditioning! Metabolic conditioning exercises elicit a specific hormonal and energy production response designed to improve the capability of the body to efficiently and effectively deliver energy for activity.

  • It is characterized by short surges of high-intensity, short-duration exercise.
  • Exercising at 80% to 90% of your maximal heart rate.

The best part is that it takes only minutes of exercise per day to get healthy and to get into amazing shape. The second component of the T3 program addresses your body’s multitude of energy systems.

To keep it simple, the speed at which you move determines what energy system you are focused on and which muscle fibers you are activating.

That is why MOVEMENT and exercise are one of the 5 Essentials of health freedom, so let’s get you moving!
